Using SwitchBot bot
Devices used in testing (to write this article):
- SwitchBot Bot: button pusher
- SwitchBot Hub Plus:
- A Bluetooth to Wi-Fi gateway for you to control the SwitchBot devices remotely
- It works with third-party like Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT
Apps used for testing (iOS apps):
- SwitchBot
- IFTTT - automation & workflow
SwitchBot bot setup
- Insert battery to SwitchBot bot and stick it to PC power button
- Turn on hub plus
- Install SwitchBot app
- Open app > Profile > Sign in > Click “Sign up” (or use sign in by third-party account)
- Adding hub plus and bot to the app:
- Turn on blutooth in your phone
- SwitchBot app > Home > click “+” on the top right > “Hub plus” (app will guide you to setup)
- Add SwitchBot bot in the same way (app will guide you to setup)
- Hub plus wifi setup:
- Home > All devices > click “SwitchBot Hub Plus”
- Click settings icon on top right > wifi settings (connect to the wifi you want)
- SwitchBot bot cloud service
- Home > All devices > click “SwitchBot bot”
- Cloud services > trun on
IFTTT setup and applet creation
- Create account: https://ifttt.com/session/new
- Install IFTTT app
- Open IFTTT and login
- Create applet:
- Click create “+” icon
- Click “If this” > (search button) Button widget > Button press
- Click “Then that” > (search SwitchBot) > “Bot turn on” > (Choose a device) select bot name
- Create action > Continue
- Finish
Add IFTTT applet as widget (iOS)
- Home screen > scroll left > press and hold at any empty space
- Click “+” on top left
- Search “ifttt” > Select > Click “Add widget”
- Done
Test:
- Go to widget screen (Home screen > scroll left
- In the IFTTT widget, click your applet
- SwitchBot bot should press PC power button (and therefore PC should be turn on)
