Cross-premises virtual network
A cross-premises Azure virtual network:
- on-premises network is connected to Azure virtual network
- extending on-premises network to include subnets and virtual machines hosted in Azure infrastructure services
- lets computers on the on-premises network to directly access virtual machines in Azure and vice versa
Ways to create Cross-premises virtual network
- Site-to-Site VPN connection
- Express Route connection
Site-to-Site VPN connection
- Requires VPN router in on-premise network
- Requires VPN Gateway in Azure vNet
- Requires VPN connection (route based or policy based)
- Details: Azure Virtual Network - Site to site vpn connection
Express Route
- Requires VPN router with BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) support
- Third party vendor (ExpressRoute connection provider) is involved
- Requires ExpressRoute Gateway in Azure vNet
- Requires VPN connection (route based with BGP)
