Assign Universal Print license
Once Universal Print is enabled for a tenant (subscription is purchased and Universal Print add-on is enabled), a Universal Print license needs to be assigned to every user who will be using it, including administrators who will manage printers.
- Microsoft 365 Admin Center > User Management
- Click on the user you want to assign license > Side panel will show up
- Click “Licenses & Apss” tab
- Check “Universal Print”
- Save Changes
To avoid sync problem from Admin center to Azure AD
- Create new user: https://admin.microsoft.com/Adminportal/Home?#/users/:/adduser
- Product licenses: check both Microsoft 365 Business Premium license and Universal Print
- Optional Setting: Click show all by category and check:
- Global admin (if you want)
- Print admin
- Print tech
Assign Print Administrator Azure AD Role
To configure and manage Universal Print printers, an administrator must be assigned either of the following Azure AD roles:
- Printer Administrator
- Global Administrator
Both Microsoft 365 and Azure portal should be backed by same Azure AD
- Go to Azure portal: https://portal.azure.com/#home
- Search “Active Directory” > Go to Azure Active Directory
- Users > Click on the target user > Assigned roles > Add assignments
- Search “Print” > Check “Print Administrator” > Add
