What is infrastructure as a service?
- Commonly referred to as simply “IaaS”
- IaaS is a type of cloud computing that provides:
- virtualized computing resources over the internet
- fundamental compute, network, and storage resources to consumers on-demand, over the internet
- virtualized computing resources to the user through the internet
- IaaS is a cloud computing service where enterprises rent or lease servers for compute and storage in the cloud
- IaaS is made up of a collection of physical and virtualized resources that provide consumers with the basic building blocks needed to run applications and workloads in the cloud
- IaaS helps the users to avoid the cost and complexity of purchasing and managing their own physical servers
Note: In computing, infrastructure refers to the computers and servers that run code and store data, and the wires and appliances that make connections between those machines
